Robert Friedman Sculptor
My work consists of standing sculptures and wall reliefs. Recent materials include aluminum, acrylic plastic, wood, and found objects. Forms are often derived from nature and its underlying principles of growth, both in the vegetative and animal worlds.
Color is an important and dynamic element in my work. Sculptures combine abstract forms that contrast organically with natural materials. Found objects and materials that have had a previous existence also coexist with newly sculpted elements.
My artistic career has been enriched by teaching at colleges and universities in the New York area, where I specialized in Studio Art (sculpture, drawing, design), and courses in Art History. I now live in Sullivan County NY. Educational background includes: Cooper Union Art School, New York (graduate); Yale University, School of Art and Architecture (BFA); Institute of Fine Arts, New York University (MA in Art History). I am a founding member of a co-op, the Catskill Artists Gallery, in Liberty NY.
I continue to present Art History talks for the Department of Education of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
